Hogwarts Legacy: Everything we know so far
Hogwarts Legacy is set to be one of the biggest new games for 2023. This new open world RPG, which will let you enroll at the school for witchcraft and wizardry, is the most wishlisted game on Steam(opens in new tab) right now. That's likely because it looks like the sort of game that Harry Potter fans have always wanted to play, where you'll be able to create your own custom character, join a House, and role-play as a student of Hogwarts – attending classes, making friends, learning spells, and so much more.
The Hogwarts Legacy release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X is fast approaching, although a delay has pushed the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch launches until later this year. There's more information on that and more below, so keep on reading to find everything we know so far about Hogwarts Legacy.
The Hogwarts Legacy release date is set for February 10, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There will be a 72-hour early access period beginning on February 7, 2023 for pre-order customers. There has, however, been a Hogwarts Legacy delay for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch players. WB Games says that PS4 and Xbox One players will need to wait until April 4, 2023 to play Hogwarts Legacy, while the Switch version will come out July 25, 2023. Citing a reason for the delay(opens in new tab), the publisher says "The team is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms."
Warner Bros. Games has set the Hogwarts Legacy platforms as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. We have already seen the Hogwarts Legacy system requirements for PC, and they caught some players off guard.> This has led to speculation that the Nintendo Switch version (which remains without a release date) will be a Cloud game – this has yet to be confirmed, but we're expecting more clarity on this in the weeks ahead.
The Hogwarts Legacy setting extends beyond the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world experience, and so we'll eventually be able to travel to surrounding locations like the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village – and some entirely new locations that Warner Bros. Games is yet to reveal. Naturally, it's the fully-realized Hogwarts Castle that's the main draw, particularly as we'll be given the freedom to attend classes, grow our magical abilities, brew potions, tame magical beasts, discover Hogwarts' hidden dungeons and secret passageways, and get involved with challenging puzzles that are scattered all-throughout the school.
